Ten Curtain Ideas For Designer-Style Tiebacks
Even beautiful window curtains seem to be lacking something in the absence of tiebacks. Tiebacks are instrumental in showing off the drapes of the fabric and they just pull the curtains back slightly, thus allowing more light into the room. Do think on the lines of adding them while considering new window coverings as they help to add a bit of elegance and even the plainest curtains begin to look lively.
1. Matching Tiebacks
If you are buying readymade curtains, tiebacks are mostly provided with them, but if you get curtains made to your style, you have to look for some kind of matching tiebacks. These could be made from the same fabric as of the curtains, but then they hardly get noticed, though functionally they may be o.k. One way of making tiebacks for tailor made curtains is to choose a contrasting fabric, may be choosing one of the colors from the design, if any, of the main fabric. Otherwise you could have piping on the edges to get a better look. Here are some other options. Depending upon the design of your curtains and the room they occupy, you may choose one to add a sparkle to the whole scenario.
2. Rope Tassels
Curtains made from heavy fabrics like tapestry, velvet or jacquard look affluent with tiebacks made of silky ropes and tassels. You may try them in contrasting or toned colors.
3. Fringing
Include ready made trims or fringes on the edges of tiebacks and make them stand out or use a length of fringing itself as a tieback.
4. Beaded Tie Backs
Make a string of matching beads with a strong cord to get tiebacks. Or you may incorporate this beaded string with plain tiebacks. If you are not used to beading, simply add ready-made jewelry broaches to your plain tiebacks.
5. Greenery and Floral Tiebacks
For a natural looking tieback make swags of attractive silk greenery such as ivy. Plain cream curtains look great with these. Or add some silk flowers for a very feminine touch.
6. Scarves
Go for a couple of long silk scarves in beautiful colored patterned to tie back your curtains. Perhaps you would like experimenting with different kinds of knots. They can be loosely knotted or tied in a bow, depending on your choice. Denim curtains with a red bandana create a good casual look.
7. Ribbon
Get some broad ribbons in a contrasting or toning shade to tie back your curtains. Their availability in many shades and patterns these days will surly help you finding something that goes well with your curtains. This idea works wonders, especially with light fabrics and sheers.
8. Chain
Chunky chains in white, silver, black, or brass color, so conveniently available at the hardware sore near you, may be used to form tiebacks. They add color in a boy’s room and give it that masculine look. But, then again you may use thread ribbon or a thin scarf along the chain to soften the look.
9. Go Hawaiian
Bring a cheerful note to plain curtains in a girl or kids’ room by including Bright Hawaiian leis.
10. Use Holdbacks
If you don’t prefer the idea of tying back the curtains, you may like adding decorative holdbacks to the walls at the edges of the window frames. You get holdbacks to match curtain rod finials for a harmonized look.

Hi, I really wish you had pictures of the finished product. I have looked at about 10 sites and like yours they weren’t very inspiring. The “A picture speaks a thousand words” quote should be considered here. You need more pictures (or links). It would bring energy to these how-to-sites and help the do-it-yourself type realize the possibilities. Just by tying back a curtain with a length of ready made beads and snapping a picture focusing on the bead detail would I think really help your readers visualize the idea. Thanks, Cathy

You are completely right. I will try to add more pictures in the future and I’ll start with this post.
Thanks for your comment. You help me realize something a bit obvious and that’s my mistake. I’ll definitely think about how readers view this blog.

I think a few more pictures would be great, you can only really get a vague idea from text. I think the metal hold backs are one of the best sorts out there for standard curtains. They are discreet yet do the job well.
