How To Choose Bathroom And Kitchen Curtains

It’s difficult to imagine a house or office without curtains in the present era. Living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and offices, all need to have good looking curtains. Curtains and blinds form an integral part of any modern household, rather these play a significant role in the interior designing of your home and that includes the kitchen and bathroom too. An inappropriate selection of design or material could mar the looks of the whole place. The overall ambience should be welcoming once you enter the house. And, the availability of these accessories in all the imaginable designs and colors makes it easy for any one to have the necessary materials for getting the desired effect.

You can choose from a very large variety of kitchen curtains. Nevertheless, finally it rests on you, whether you prefer to have valances or blinds with the latest styles. Tier-blinds are in style and if you choose the ones that go along well with the color of the kitchen, visitors to your place will appreciate them.

You need to be a bit cautious while selecting the blinds. The blind should complement the beauty of the interiors of your kitchen. You would be having cabinets, shelves, and drawers in your kitchen. Blinds and these accessories should complement each other. The same holds good for curtains also. Printed curtains, for instance look bright as light reflects well on these and that keeps the environment and the atmosphere quite fresh all around them.

Whether you choose blinds or curtains for your kitchen, bear their length in mind. They should not be too long for reasons of safety. The blinds should never enclose your stove in the kitchen as it could prove fatal. That’s why it is not desirable to have curtains in lengths going below the window hem.

Long curtains should always be avoided in bathrooms, as on touching the floor they certainly get dirty sooner than you expected. So, you are burdened with their frequent cleaning. Moreover, long curtains deprive you of the pleasant sight created by short smart looking curtains.

Another very desirable feature to keep in mind, while choosing bathroom curtains is to prefer selecting those, which match the interiors of the bathroom. Fabric curtains are a better option for bathrooms, as they can be washed easily, compared to curtains made from other materials. Cotton-curtains ideally suit any bathroom. Though they would get wet, being in the bathroom, they are easier to clean. Cotton fabrics offer the convenience of being washed in washing machine.

Some may consider hanging curtains in a big bathroom as problematic, but have no worries on that account. Go for optical illusions. Bigger curtains occupy a lot of space, giving your bathroom a shorter look, though it’s not.

Bathroom Window Curtains Alternatives

The tradition of having bathroom curtains has continued to dominate the scene to such an extent that we often overlook the other options of dressing up the windows. Generally, they provide a romantic or a country look rather than a practical minimal look.

You may consider one of the following five interesting options for decorating bathroom windows.

1. Change the Glass

A very practical and easy way of improving upon the privacy is to have a patterned glass in place of a plane glass. But, if you do not find it convenient to replace that glass, there is that option of covering your present glass with a decorative film. You get these films suitable for different themes. You could give a Victorian style look to your bathroom by using a film that gives the impression of an etched glass. Or you may give a multicolored effect by replacing the plain glass with a tinted glass. Here too, you get films that impart the feeling of a tinted glass.

2. Use a Simple Fabric Blind or Roman Shade

Fabric roller blinds or roman shades offer improved privacy while giving an overall nice finish to the window. They come in a variety of fabrics, colors and designs with or without decorative edgings to suit your plans. For a still heightened effect of your window, you could have a valance along its top.

3. Venetian Blinds

Modern bathrooms have fittings and faucets in chrome finish or in colors of white, grey, black and even pink. The best option for such a mod bathroom would be to have metallic mini blinds in silver color to get a sleek and efficient look, whereas wooden Venetian blinds in cream or natural tones contribute to its enhanced looks.

4. Indoor Shutters

Provision of indoor shutters is another window treatment that looks great in bathrooms. Here you have to take the precaution of painting them to save them from the effects of humidity or steamy atmosphere that is bound to be there. A big advantage here is that you can experiment with different colors to get your style and the desired impact.

5. Add Accessories

Generally a bathroom window without any curtain presents a very bare and impersonal look. You could avoid that look by adding accessories to a window sill. Some of the accessories that com to mind are: Colored vases or candles or may be bath oils in colored bottles. Go ahead and try tropical plants in small pots which could be easily painted to bring sparks to the bathrooms.
